INFORMATION FOR INCOMING ERASMUS STUDENTS AT THE ATHENS SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS (ASFA)
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
All students interested in studying as Erasmus students at the Athens School of Fine Arts must fill in an application form and send it by email to our Erasmus office, dully completed and signed, no later than May 31st for the first semester of studies or the whole year and November 1st for the second semester. Along with this application form, each student should send a portfolio, a curriculum vitae and a motivation letter, as well as a certificate proving knowledge of the English or Greek language.Make sure that there is a valid bilateral agreement between your Home Institution and ASFA before applying. To check that, please contact your Institution’s Erasmus office.Winter semester starts in mid-October and ends in mid-February, while spring semester lasts from mid-February till the end of June. Lessons are not held during Christmas and Easter time.
PROGRAMME OF STUDIES
Acceptance/rejection emails are sent within one month’s time following the application procedure deadline. Erasmus students who receive an acceptance email should then prepare their learning agreement by choosing one of ASFA’s core studio courses i.e. Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, as well as a number of supplementary studio courses in order to get 30 ECTS maximum per semester and 60 ECTS per year. It must be noted that all theoretical courses are delivered in Greek language. Students who wish to follow a theoretical course will have to contact the Erasmus coordinator of the Theory and History of Art Department, upon arrival in ASFA. Students can choose one core studio course and as many optional modules as necessary in order to gather the required credits. ENROLMENT
ASFA’s Erasmus office is located in 42 Patision street, in the centre of Athens, within the area of the Polytechneion. The office is open to the public on Mondays-Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.00 to 13.00. Erasmus students should report to ASFA’s Erasmus Office within the first days of their arrival in Athens, in order to enroll to the School. Students should bring or send beforehand:
- one passport photo (jpeg)
- Student card of Home Institution
- Copy of the European Health Insurance Card
- Passport or ID
- The ASFA Info Sheet, dully completed.
Students are informed of the studio they have been placed, according to the preferred field of studies or/and based on availability. Nevertheless, they can change studio and courses, provided that there are places and that they are accepted by the studios’/courses’ professors. Erasmus students must notify immediately the Erasmus Office on any change occurred.
STUDENTS’ ACCOMODATION AND VISA
ASFA does not provide residence accommodation. Erasmus students should find accommodation on their own. From time to time our office gets informed on flats to rent in the nearby area, therefore ask us a question, there’s nothing to lose! For visa matters, please contact the relevant embassies.
CATERING
ASFA holds a restaurant in its premises in Peiraios street, where Erasmus students can have breakfast, lunch and dinner in a reduced price (currently 2,50€ per day for any or all three meals of a day).
EXTRAS
ASFA provides Erasmus students with a student card which offers reduction in public transport means and free entrance in most museums and archaeological sites. Erasmus students can also profit of the library’s services in the Peiraios premises. Students can borrow books, provided that they return them in due time before their departure.
EVALUATION / TRANSCRIPT OF RECORDS
At the end of their studies, all students must show their work to their supervising professors or sit at the exams accordingly. Following evaluation, a Transcript of records is issued by the Erasmus Office validating the students’ progress during the mobility and granting them with the relevant ECTS.
ANNEXES
ASFA runs nine “Annexes” in different parts of Greece, which are used by the School as special educational centres. Their operation aims at providing students with additional and specialized training, conducting special workshops in cooperation and mutual exchange with Greek students and art centres, assisting students in the preparation of their projects, as well as hosting seminars, exhibitions, lectures, screenings, and other cultural events having a positive impact at regional, national and EU level. To book a stay in any of the Annexes, Erasmus students should ask for their supervising professor’s permit who must sign the application form for annexes; this form must then be handed over to the ASFA’s student welfare office (Patision street).
