WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

In Workshop A, students are trained to acquire technical painting skills, study the human figure, still life and nature, as well as acquire knowledge on colour and colour techniques. In the process, students will apply the theory of colours to exercises from life and, after understanding basic concepts of visual perception, they will apply the basic elements of the language of painting and they will understand the importance of drawing as a tool for organising-composing the painting space.
In addition to the study from life, in Workshop A, students are encouraged to approach modern artistic practices, to research modern formations of the painting surface and image in relation to the context of the great painting tradition, to experiment and use the element of interpretation of the painting space. At the same time, students are encouraged to understand concepts from different art fields (literature, theatre, cinema, music, etc.) with the help of exercises-assignments as well as the methodology for managing concepts and formulating tools used by the visual art language and to expand visual issues with the written language. Students are trained to acquire skills for presenting their personal work. Upon completion of their studies, students are invited to identify their personal artistic idiom and work in depth in order to become “artistic subjects”. They are also asked to familiarise themselves with the public presence of their artistic work and to be able to form a theoretical framework to support it; such skills guide them through the preparation of their dissertation.
Once they have clarified and settled on their personal artistic idiom, students are invited to prepare their dissertation in the form of (a) work(s) of art and prepare the theoretical framework supporting it. They finally understand and apply the language of visual art as a tool of their personal expression.

The purpose of the course is for students to acquire the following skills per semester:
1st and 2nd semester:

•  Understand the value of the drawing result 
• Understand the human figure in terms of drawing and analyse it 
• Practice observation from life 
• Apply the theory of primary colours

3rd and 4th semester:
Students must understand basic concepts of visual perception and apply the main elements of the language of painting:

• the importance of drawing 
• analysis of the various components of a work of art 
• the transition from two (2) to three (3) dimensions 
• the organisation and composition of a work of art

5th and 6th semester:

• Students should manage thematic exercises 
• Students acquire skills for presenting their personal work 
• Students understand concepts from different art fields (literature, theatre, cinema, music, etc.)

7th and 8th semester:

• Students become independent, creating compositions with a personal touch 
• Students understand the modern approach to visual art practice 
• Students apply the knowledge they acquired from the curriculum courses

9th and 10th semester:

• Independent work 
• Decision-making 
• Promotion of free and deductive thinking

Work in an interdisciplinary and inter-artistic environment.
