WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Painting Workshop H includes the essays or lectures on art-based creation with the participation of students, guests and teachers. Apart from observational, compositional and two-dimensional technique-learning exercises, the workshop also explores the modern critical character of visual arts which challenge the established ways in which we view or perceive our surroundings. The study-based works of art attempt to answer questions or issues regarding their presence in the public sphere, their opposition to dominant systems of thought or controlling memory. The workshop also encourages exercises with the use of electronic means, the supervisory knowledge of similar areas of art and disciplines, as well as the collaboration among students.

The purpose of the course is for students to acquire the following skills per semester:

1st and 2nd semester:
  • Organising their study during the observation of object and model compositions, mainly from life, plastic art exercises and the study of countryside nature 
  • Identifying and utilizing different materials, art or non-art, in their practical applications 
  • Exploring topics/problems in the field of visual studies through materials assemblies, organising drawings and re-formulating ideas, concepts and techniques 
  • Determining the cognitive requirements of the field by combining the practical applications learned in workshop exercises with the theory-based directions taught in the Department 
  • Detecting, assessing, incorporating and correctly referencing multiple sources of information in different means or different languages in works, essays or applications 
  • Approaching aesthetics-related concerns on the relationship between natural reality and artistic performance

3rd and 4th semester:
  • Broaden their knowledge on utilizing different art and non-art materials as well as new means and expression techniques 
  • Drawing a topic/problem in the field of visual arts, exploring and assessing competition potential and presenting opposing opinions 
  • Utilizing collective procedures organised in the field of studies and combining individual workshop activity with the current reality in the field of art

5th and 6th semester:
  • Assessing the need and utilizing the study for the scientific support of the art projects 
  • Working independently and in teams in international and interdisciplinary environments for producing new research ideas and planning and managing new projects 
  • Participating in visits to modern exhibits that help clarify the opposition between past and present and re-defining the relationship between the two 
  • Actively promoting their learning experience through artistic activities, visual art projects, social events with a collaborative and participative character 7th and 8th semester 
  • Students are becoming independent, they are creating innovative compositions of their own personal character 
  • They compose a work that examines a very essential question in the field of visual arts, including a detailed narrative for the research or practical skills that are applied during the execution of the work 
  • Dealing with and resolving methodologically complex problems arising from their individual, personal proposals 
  • Explaining views from different cultural, economic and geographic interests and perspectives, on issues pertaining to art and the society 9th and 10th semester 
  • Completing a fully feasible personal artistic proposal as a composition for assessment at graduation 
  • Supporting the personal, compositional capture of a theme Developing initiative and self-mobilisation through the knowledge, the skills and the experiences acquired and achieved

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

The workshop operates daily from 8am to 8pm.

Students can meet the director and the professors of the workshop after consultation and the hourly nude model schedule is constantly changing according to the daily needs.

ACTIVITIES
The teaching schedule includes essays assigned to students every semester. These are accompanied by specialized presentations by the professors of the workshops and the guest artists, scientists etc.

Educational field trips in Greece and abroad are organized throughout the studies.
