DESCRIPTION


1st Semester
Drawing exercises on theme-based studies from life (compositions-model) though which the student is introduced to the language of art.
Exercises on: the point, the line, the shape, the direction, the tone, the colour, the matière, the texture, the material and the movement.
Lectures on: colour (warm-cool colours- opposite-complementary colours-colour tonality-purity-colour saturation).
Investigative exercise so that students can familiarise themselves with the library. Unity of colour exercises from life (tone-hue-saturation) through which the understanding and function of colour is sought.
Acquisition of technical and perceptual skills which lead to the understanding of the two-dimensional surface. Familiarisation with techniques and materials.
Drawing composition exercises regarding the form, the line and the composition. Visits to exhibition spaces and discussions with artists.

2nd Semester
Theme-based studies from life (composition-model) seeking the acquisition of skills which derive from studying, focused on the interpretation of the representational and perceptual space through painting.
Organisation of the image, techniques, materials. Parallel study from life (model-composition) with thematic exercises through which research of methods and materials is encouraged, aiming to familiarise and deepen the knowledge of materials and the techniques of the language of art as well as a deeper understanding of a creative expressive vocabulary.
Lectures depending on the exercise. Written paper on an artist of the student's choice, where the plastic elements of three of their works are discussed in detail. Exercises encouraging the use of other means of expression such as photography and electronic computers. Visits to exhibition spaces and museums.

3rd Semester
Drawing, plastic art exercises encouraging the exploration of ways of expression aiming to familiarise students and deepen their knowledge of the materials and techniques of the language of art as well as the development of their composition and combination skills aiming to the expression of objects without being necessarily limited to their representation. Students engage with and learn a broader plastic vocabulary of expression for modern artistic practices.

4th Semester
The aim is to develop the students' ability to deepen and analyse concepts, to expand their pictorial and morphoplastic capabilities through studio practice as well as further practice their ability in composition and expression. Familiarisation and deepening of the knowledge on techniques of the language of the visual arts.

5th Semester
Exercise on: (my) self portrait with examples from the work of Loukas Samaras and the photography project “Family” by Philip Tsiaras. The purpose of the exercise is to develop the students' ability to study and analyse concepts to enrich their morphoplastic skills and exercise their compositional skills. Familiarisation with issues of Aesthetics and Art Theory that will help deepen and understand the techniques of their artistic formulation, creating the conditions for a personal expressive idiom. Extended and thorough research of a topic, collecting data-information and learning the expression language of other artists from the History of Art, helping students to explore processes and practices to create a consciously consistent work. Moreover, the search for versions of format and content leads to the development of a verbal argument that supports the final project.

6th Semester
Exercise on: Continuation of the exercise from the 5th semester. The purpose of the exercise is, upon completion, for students to analyse poetry-texts, read reviews and be able to apply critical thinking in referencing meaningful concepts and putting them in conversation with their own artistic plastic language. At the same time, the aim is to organise an exhibition with works by the students. This exhibition will present a dialogue between the visual artist and the poet-writer. Exercise on: The private space of the mental or poetic subject, as defined by the student Visits to exhibition spaces and discussions with artists.


7th Semester
The main topic for the students in both semesters of the 4th year is the concept of "Body" and its numerous versions through the fields of Art History, Sociology and History. Presentations-analyses are carried out via short-term exercises aimed at creating preparatory works, on the subject of the body in its various socio-political manifestations and representations in Modern Art.

1. Presentations concern works from all fields of artistic expression (literature-poetry-music-cinema) approaching in different ways the concept of “Body”. 
2. Invitations to lectures for discussion of theoretical topics regarding the Body and their operation in the modern era, on the occasion of texts by E. Levinas, J. Derrida and P. Ricouer. 
3. Students choose an artist from the Modern History of Art who uses the body in their work and present them identifying their relation to their personal artistic quests. Visits to exhibitions and discussions with artists.

8th Semester
The exercise on “Body” continues with the following lectures:

1. “The body as a representation object: vessel or transmitter?”, Lecturer: Marios Spiliopoulos. 
2. “The importance of being an animal, therianthropy in Visual Arts”, Lecturer: Maria Giagiannou. 
3. “Fourth from the true: the Body in cyberpunk”, Lecturer: Giorgos Lamprakos 
4. “The body as a body simulation - Nymphomaniac by Lars von Trier”, Lecturer: Dimitris Nakos. 
5. “From the representation of Violence to the Violence of representation. Thoughts on the theory of E. Levinas”, Lecturer: Thomas Symeonidis.

The ultimate purpose of the exercise is the creation of integrated art proposals by the students with the aim of presenting them in an exhibition space, coordinated and curated by themselves.

9th Semester
Determining the expressive and theoretical framework of the personal work with a comparative study of similar artistic areas from the history of art. Analysing and processing the plastic requirements to realise the personal idiom of the students with the purpose of: Preparing a dissertation based on theoretical research and practical exercise, as well as the adequacy and depth of the artistic means used. Specifying the dissertation title and research regarding the methods for presenting works and the theoretical framework supporting them. Senior students are obliged to collaborate with respective students of the theoretical department to prepare their dissertation. Dimiris Kozaris, a visual artist and Professor at Accademia Di Belle Arti, in Carrara, Italy held the Workshop/Lecture: Methodology for Drawing Displacement”, in the context of the ERASMUS student exchange programme.

Part 1: Lecture on “Script writing rules”.
Part 2: Workshop with students on “Drawing Methodology” with the Vincenzo Cerami method (preliminary level). The operational principles of the following mechanisms were developed: memory, adventure, flashback, deus ex machina, discovery. Moreover, in the context of the course, various short films were shown, where the application of the above mechanisms was explained in detail.
3rd part: Lecture on “Cinema and the city”. Excerpts from short films (from the first documentaries in modern suggestions) by Ivens, Wenders, Herzog, Reggio, Fricke were shown during the lesson, followed by a discussion with the students.
4th part: Presentation of the works by younger students, where the new artists have developed their approaches. 5th part: Completion of workshop where the short scripts by students were discussed.

10th Semester
Preparation of a dissertation based on theoretical research and practical exercise, as well as the adequacy and depth of the artistic means used. The theoretical framework text is drafted in collaboration with students of the theoretical department selected by the senior student, with the goal of a creative collaboration between the two departments.
Thematic section that mainly addresses graduating students on International Situationists, with references to the work by Architect Constant and presentation of the work by Guy Debord using as a main axis his books, “Society of the spectacle”, Eleutheros Typos, 1990 and “Against Cinema”, Akmon, 1977. Showing movies based on “in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni”.
The courses offered in the workshop aim for students to acquire the ability to search, analyse and compose multiple data from the international art Space, using modern and traditional means. They also aim for students to adapt to the new challenges of the modern age, taking advantage of the skills they have acquired during their studies so that they can work in an international environment and produce new research fields in the visual arts, respecting the diversity and multiculturalism of the modern social condition.
